We Built This Path
Suddenly
I am riding in a rickety carriage
Full of other prisoners
Who are all enduring the same pain
As I am
And the sun
Is hiding behind a cloud
A cloud that covers the whole sky
In a blanket of
Black -
Collecting Dust
I wonder
If inanimate objects sign up for jobs
Maybe heirlooms
Get the best jobs because they have something treasured,
Like Experience
Getting passed down from hand to hand
But I doubt this

Clocks tick on a steady rhythm, but the earth’s clock has an irregular heartbeat that fills the room with a sort of enigmatic song that everyone seems to know.

Dawn
Is still
Eyelids closed, maybe just
Silent
Let us stay silent
To early for whispers to wake
To early for sounds to carry across morning breezes
Wings flap and stretch

Dusk
So light
But so dark
Colors, reds and golds
Splayed out across the sky
Traveling down
To say goodnight
Dusk
So quiet
But so loud
Sounds, high pitched and deep
Loves

Just a Bracelet
After 5th grade,
My bracelet
Was a brown bead
On a thin white string.
After 6th grade,
My bracelet
Was a green bead

Wishing
waves
wash
against
the

Dawn to Dusk
Light is lobbed to the leaves and they cradle it
In the evening they throw it back to the sun
whose tendrils collect it
then go home
