Some people say the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series are similar to KotLC, but I find that The School For Good And Evil by Soman Chainani or The Revenge Of Magic by James Riley to be somewhat more like Keeper! (Though nothing can quite match it).
Almost like a vortex into another world, and he's disappearing behind it! The distortion of the background adds to the overall effect of the piece.
