Name Game
I don’t like my name
not this one, the one I stole
from a great grandmother
I never met
the one I stole from
an Irish goddess

Today
I do not write happy things.
Today I will.
Today I will breathe
ignore the sick feeling growing
in the back of my throat.
Today I will drink water
feel it burn the raw throat

Redacted
You walk down the hallway, suspicion on Your tongue. You remember it all, except You don't because Your memory is awful.
Everything is capital R E D A C T E D. Redacted. Gone.

Drill It Out
Inspired by the lockdown drill and debrief I had in school today
Cold hands on my shoulder that chilled to the bone
A school hallway, a morning like a dream. A class change.

The Scottish Play
It's too late to be awake.
Devastation crawls in the wake
of everything.
My eyes are burning
physically, actually
in no poetic manner

A girl pointed at me, before first period
Look, even she's crying

Stupidity
Some people vote, but never think,
Their choices shallow, quick to sink.
They cheer and boast, with voices loud,
But wisdom’s lost inside the crowd. -
WHY ARE WE NOT EQUAL YET?
When I don’t have to
Lose the rights to my body
Is when we are equal.
Why are we not equal yet?
When I don’t have to
Be scared of walking alone
Is when we are equal

Civility
Since when did the world mock me?
When was the moment that I walked down the street to a threat of being paved?
A threat on the path I have walked my whole life?

i beg of you
this is not a poem.
this is not a song.
this is not metaphor, a sonnet, an ode, not a ballad, a rant, not even a dream–
this is a plea.

Oh little girl
"Oh little girl,"
They say with distain
Usually followed by a suggestion on how to change myself
But I don't want to change
"Oh little girl,"
With tears in their eyes
