my heart stirs in my chest

as i watch her face

and my head aches at the sight of her
so unbroken on the outside

nothing but pieces of a long forgotten vase
hidden within

she is so strong
so unapologetic

She sighed, laying her head back against the tree. How lucky she was, to have this loyal forest, all to herself. This forest that loved no other, that spoke not of her secrets but only of the beauty of its children.

i stand beneath-
thy broken arms
which once stretched so lovingly
towards thy father sun.

the desert-
endless field of red sand,
rocks and hoodoos decorate the landscape.

the angry sun beats down-
scorching the ground.

mesas rise up-
canyons drop down.

here i stand – amidst the trees  

i hear the echoes of wind 

that whistle through this valley 

for evermore

my intuition,
she whispers,

"they're worried,"

she whispers,

"it's not safe,"

she tells me things i could not see with my eyes
and always, i listen
