I read this book too. I really like when books teach me something while still being entertaining, and this novel taught me a lot about Indigenous American culture and kept me intrigued the whole time.
Woah, so much to wrap my mind around. I could feel your speaker's emptiness at the beginning, and just as well the shift inside them, the determination that followed. I'm left wanting more, more from this character, this world. Your speaker is less than "human" if they're immortal, and yet they've tapped into exactly what it means to be human, the most important things to any human... ahh! How poignant. Be sure to keep this one in mind as a springboard for a short story if you ever want to stretch yourself, or have an assignment.
The kind of love we're all desperately seeking, sometimes our entire lives---! I appreciate the metaphor here of time finally ripening as if it is harvest season: the golden years have arrived for this pair, years of joy to savor together. It's very touching.
Your interpretation of hygge, that warm and cozy feeling, brought be the biggest smile. You're literally going for the opposite, braving the cold outdoors, doing something that raises your heartrate rather than slows it! But skiing and all that comes with it is the thing that brings you that inner warmth, in spite of the outer chill -- so how precious is that? I bet you'll be the only one who responds to this prompt in this way!
Time neither hastens nor slackens for anyone... march on it does, and grow up we do. But don't rush the process! As soon as you reach adulthood, you'll realize you'd do anything to get back to where you are, right now! (Assuming your speaker's voice is just a little bit of your own too, anyway.)

What a superb use of texture, using real leaves like that! It really makes the piece come alive!

I thought to myself, "That almost looks like Vermont!" right before I noticed the title! Spot on!
