Nothing remains
Nothing lives here anymore
Nothing remains
We all grew up
And went our own ways
And nothing is left to prove we
Ever were there
Your bike was given to your little brother -
I hope
I hope every time
You see the stars at night
Painted on that black Texas sky
You think of me
I hope you think of me
When you see the mountains
And how they're framed by the sky -

People Watching
There's a young child sitting on the bench
Her father sitting next to her
And they're calm and it's peaceful -
Grown Up
In four years
I will be grown
I will no longer be a little kid
Sitting in my father's truck
A ford from 77
That he sold that when I turned thirteen
Even though he promised it to me -
Time
Here
I will wait
To see what will change
And what will stay the same
I wish I had stayed
When it wasn't my choice
So I left
And you grew old

When I'd Go
They all say they'd visit dinosaurs
go back and dig for gold
meet their great-great-great grandparents
be around when electricity was discovered.
When the question is asked

Little Girl, Little Girl
Little girl, little girl
Why’ve you got boy’s hair?
Why’ve you got weird sentences
spilling from your mouth
And why’ve you got the wrong words

Every Little Girl
To every little girl out there
With big dreams
And bright eyes
I hope that by the time
You reach middle school
Our world will be different

Pen Pal
I write in pen
to get comfortable with my mistakes
to catch all my thoughts
scatterbrained
and fleeting
pens scratch the itch to write
better than any graphite
the use of ink before pencils

The Season of Death
Death reaches his hands
Shrivels leaves
Rips them up
Soon the ghosts and ghouls will scream
They've waited all year for Halloween
But this death is not a scary thought
In fact it's comforting

With My Mother in My Chest. My Chest
Eight AM, I wake in my father’s home with my mother in my chest.
