i go to school these days & i'm scared i'll get shot
earbuds always in, trying to drown out my thoughts
fall to the ground, let it all float away
look me in the eyes & i'll believe every lie you say
"2025, hope you have your guns ready
strap 'em in, lock 'em in, even if they're heavy"
i lost the right to my own body
& no one's even looking back or saying "sorry"
guinea pig generation, that's what we are
they get mad at us when we say things are too hard
raise those middle fingers in the air
scream and shout that we don't care
we won't be silent no matter what they say
try as they might, they can't take our voice away
trapped in a heart-shaped box; they threw away the key
they say that they love us but they always leave
i'm alive, but somehow i'm not living
they want me dead, my existence is sinning
i'm mad right now and i'm not scared to admit it
honestly, i don't like the world i'm living in
i pledge allegiance to your flag forever
don't treat me like a pet and i'll never be your helper
shut your mouth & read my lips:
i'm so fucking over this
you take all i can give & you throw it away
when's uncle sam coming to save the day?
he's dead; they killed him, do you know why
another opinion, another vote for the other side
this is what it's like
being a teenager in america.
