Diamond Reeds

We shift through the reeds, chests touching, foreheads resting on each other. Our hands become moist from being held together for so long. The breeze makes the large plane full of reeds click, nearly sounding like diamonds. Bliss fills my bones; I have become numb to pain. It's just us in my world.

She lets go of my hand and unfolds us; my body feels deprived of the warmth she had been filling me with. She pulls me from our placement in the thigh-high reeds. Drawing me in her wake, she starts giggling. The sun is gold falling down and lighting for eternity. She starts off in a run, her hair wiping. A few wisps reach my face, lighting the skin they brush with a light that reaches through my whole body.

I’m hooked on dopamine, addicted to her. Her serotonin is contagious, but only to me; she is my personal drug. No one knows who we are, we like it like that. We can be ourselves away from others, getting caught on each other. We are our own obsessions.

As we slow, I finally see why she left our peace. There is a large stream in the middle of the reed field. She stands on the edge of it, with me still behind her. I move to her side and wrap my arm around her waist to see. I look up at her face, it's filled with pure jubilation. Her light green eyes, highlighted with ecstasy. She stares down at the water, drawing my eyes with her gaze. The water is gorgeous. It's a crystalline teal with a light green outline from the overhanging reeds. The sight complements her perfectly, the light tones in the view contrast her brunette hair, while the green of the reeds in the sun is the same as her eyes, the sparkle of her irises complementing the sight as much as it complements her.

Then she lets go of me. Stepping into the water, she lies down and disappears with it.
