breakup

salted lips, cracked in various places
like your poetic heart. lip balm
won't help, just like another lover
won't help you get over him. sometimes,
you think it was all just a
mirage. that he never loved you and never
will love you. but then you go back to
every text, every photo, every
damn thing that reminds you of him. and
you see how much he loves you. it's in his
copper eyes; he looks at you as if
you are the one thing in the world
that is worth looking at. it's in his
voice; he calls out to you and
you would be able to hear him
from the other side of the earth. it's in his
body; the way he holds you and
his touch sends of sparks of
something you've never felt before
inside you.

now it's valentines day, your
least favorite holiday. but you
can't help but wonder:
if it had worked out, what would
he have done
for me?
