I'd suggest someone relatable (so, a teenager) who is (or becomes) really skilled at something (without being perfect ofc) but is also flawed and may not even realize it at the beginning. They could also have a disadvantageous background like poverty or mental/physical health issues (if health issues you could also have the character discover that gradually). This would make their wins more exciting as they beat the odds
Yeah favoritism is awful, most especially when it's coming from a parent. Parents are not supposed to pick favorites. That's when comparison kills you the most.
Love the ending btw! You are totally a lot more than who you're compared to, and every child deserves love <3
Hi! I really like re-reading or thinking about the These Violent Delights series. It's set in interwar Shanghai, China and its a retelling of Romeo and Juliet but I swear its the best one I've ever read. It really delves into the political climate at the time and I learned some history that most western textbooks don't look into. The sequel series Foul Lady Fortune goes deeper in depth as WW2 begins in China. There's some odd parallels I find in the story with our lives right now and the writing is impeccable. Music that is very calming also is really keeping me sane right now, with Hozier's Wasteland Baby and the Good Grief EP from Leanna Firestone. They're both sad but they have some hopeful messages, at least in my opinion. Aurora's The Seed is really good and I also recommend her Apple Tree, it's really incredible.
Ikr it was so good!
This poem is magnificent! I love the concept and the way you described the feelings was perfection!

This was heartbreaking to read, but so good!
I feel like to have a longer plot like this you need a strong main character to route for…who would this be?

Thank you so much!
thank you! I know deep down we both will get through this period of burnout!
Wow, this is amazing! The rhyming adds a lot!
