When I Thought Superheroes Were Cool.

I always thought that superheroes were so cool. Like who wouldn’t think that shooting lasers out of your eyes, having invisible jets, a car that can turn into a motorcycle, and being able to fly wasn’t cool. My 3rd grade self didn’t think so. Me and my friends would pretend we were different superheroes (sometimes “real” ones like spider man or hawk eye or ones we made either on the spot or the night before) sometimes we would fight pretend supervillains and other times fight each other. Like Thor who could launch his hammer and control lightning versus The Dark King a very overpowered and unbalanced superhero who was not only invincible, immortal and 27 feet tall. But had a sword that if touched by could instantly kill anyone and anything. In these “dream matches” there would never be a winner. The battle would end when the bell rang. Both of us promised that the battle would continue the next day. Now at the ripe age of 16 I watched “The Dark Knight” for the first time a couple of days ago and found myself rooting for The Joker. Now I don’t support him murdering everyone of course but the way he does it in his “I’m always one step ahead” is so satisfying to watch. If I told this to my 8 year old self he’d probably think I’m crazy. Now the movie itself was a masterpiece a strong 9.3/10 (Killer Bean is the only 10/10 movie.) Now I didn’t grow up with that movie, the superhero movies I did grow up with were “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the “Infinity War/ End Game” movies. Most of the movies now kinda suck. “Madame Web” was one that stunk up the box office for superhero movies. Maybe I’ve grown out of the superhero phase or maybe the world and movie industry has grown out of it. After making so many good movies, its hard to make something of that quality.
