Ocean and Death

So many skies lived upon the ocean

Stars sparkled above and beneath

Fish and birds glide alike

Foam and clouds, fluffy and white

Life thrived below with colors

Coral breaking pink and orange

Reflected on pelicans’ beaks

Life above becoming silhouettes

Darkened with mystery

Cyprus and mangrove trees

They look the same under the half wit moon

House porch creaks underfoot

Swing swaying

The bench I’ve spent ninety-four years on

Rocked on as a baby

Jumped on as a kid

Kissed on as a teenager

Cried on in my twenties

Worked on as an adult

Rocked on as a senior

Time moving forward

The ocean and the bench staying

One day I will close my eyes

The water washing the shore

Crabs clipping

Flying fish flying

Starfish scuttling

Seagulls singing

Dolphins diving

Whales wailing

Life will come slowly

Life will leave slowly

Merging with the wind and world

Final moments come

In the silent house by the water

The one I have lived in my whole life

I will take the last breath

The last breath of salt

The last breath of spray

The last breath of sea

The last breath of life

The skies of my life

The skies of the ocean

Joined together

I will greet those I watched in the water

They will greet me

I will spend the rest of my eternity watching the water in my house by the sea

Walking towards the community building, I find myself growing nervous. I see the signs for the support groups, one for each species. As I get closer I see them, the humans.

  • The Cloud Painters

Once upon a time, long ago, the sky was a clear crystal blue. Every day, when the sun rose, the sky was pure blue no matter what time of year. No clouds in sight, and therefore, no weather besides sunny shine.
