Halloween

I miss Halloween

Not because it changed

But I did

I miss going with my parents and my brother

And stuffing my face with candy

I miss meticulously planning out a costume

And going trick-or-treating early in my tiny town

I still go trick-or-treating

But not with my parents or brother

I still get candy

But don’t find the need to eat all at once

I still dress up

But my costumes are always rushed

And people tell me to enjoy this one last time,

Before I’m too old to trick-or-treat

I don’t miss Halloween because it’s gone

But it’s just a little less magical

And it seems like this holiday is just one more reminder

That I’m growing up

  • Today

Today I've walked around school in a haze

I don't know what to do

    How to feel

    I don't understand

    How he won again

    I don't think I want to understand

  • The Season of Death

    Death reaches his hands

    Shrivels leaves

    Rips them up

Soon the ghosts and ghouls will scream

They've waited all year for Halloween

But this death is not a scary thought

    In fact it's comforting
