The Deep Feeling of Gratitude

For the past four days, Nina had been in a circuit. In the mornings, she’d start preparing for work, checking emails while brushing her teeth. She’d do her daily dose of stretches in her pajamas. She’d accidentally put on her sneakers instead of her dress shoes. She’d collect all her belongings for the day, except for her lip balm. She’d rush down the stairs, expecting having to wake Thames up so he could drive her to work on time. Yet instead, she saw the young man preparing breakfast for the both of them and as this continued, this was the only reassurance she had in the mornings, an opportunity to take a breather and have a short discussion about the things planned for the day.

This brought joy to her, and Nina was pleased that he was always there for her, and for the countless times she’d uttered the words, “thank you,” she felt as if it could never be enough.
