Alone in the World

The world outside is empty.
No people walk about.
Those who do are not recognizable, with half of their faces covered up in cloth.
The world is shaken, paused.
Markets plummet as cases rise.
They say to wait a little longer, we're almost through.
They say we're not alone.
But in this empty world of madness and pain,
of screens and space,
of masks and fighting and loss and divide and anger,
are we really united?

i am learning to live without the idea of you

and i am trying to fill up the empty cave

in my head, the one you created when you

fell to the ground and pulled me down with you.

  • And So I Refrain

she talks to me about the paper snowflakes she plans to make this weekend, and so i refrain from telling her that my bedroom has been decorated since the day after thanksgiving.
