my rights are in a chokehold,
gasping for the air they once were able to breathe in deep.
the air that made them feel so free,
like a bird in the great open sky,
or a puppy full of sweet little dreams.
but what can you do if your rights are already taken?
put in a cage and locked away.
you must be this tall to ride the roller coaster to your rights!
you must have this education to leave,
get your rights back and soar free.
take away the meds that helped me be me,
take away my pride and sweet liberty,
take away my right to stand,
stand for me,
stand for them,
stand for her,
and stand for him.
the world broken in two,
what would they say if they looked upon you?
the goddesses and the gods in the sky that tried hard,
to reverse what was given to them all those years ago.
my rights struggle and wiggle to try to get out of this chokehold,
will they ever be free?
will i be able to walk around in the street,
without feeling the need to cover up,
the feeling of being jumped for being "different."
will it ever be peaceful one day?
will i find that key to unlock the cage and let my rights soar free?
for now,
this chokehold is my new home.
what can i do?
i'm just a kid, after all.

Great poem! I love the chokehold idea :)
The best us kids can do is find support and learn to protect ourselves ig. Bonus if you can find ways to bend unfair rules, now that would be fun
