Cellphones

Some schools across the U.S. are banning student cellphones, not just limiting their use. State legislatures, including Vermont, Kansas, and Oklahoma, are considering "phone-free schools" legislation. Is a school cellphone ban a good idea? How would it affect your life?

The move to prohibit cellphones in school comes amid a warning by the U.S. surgeon general that social media is harming young people's mental health, including sleep deprivation, depression, and anxiety. Teachers say students are too distracted by their phones to pay attention in class. Schools that have taken the bold step to ban cellphones report some positive outcomes.
