The U.S and I 
breathe together tonight,
a huge sigh of
relief,
finally
grasping that

we are going to be okay.

The stars
look brighter tonight
than they have
in the past
four years,

The first time I saw you
I didn't really see you
hardly even noticed you
my mind busy
with other things
things like
staying six feet away from other people 
how much food we bought
I didn't pay attention to you

I wonder sometimes
about you

How your voice sounded
if you had smile lines
around your eyes

If your favorite food was soup
just like mine is

What color you were
turquoise maybe
or forest green

Time stand still
silhouettes captured
colors bleeding
sunlight fractured
images printed
out on paper
 memories made
to save for later


 

If humanity
Did not exist
Then the world
would not be such a mess

My mountains
are dusted today
with cold white
and hard silver

Your trees
look like mirrors today
reflecting
what the world has been
and will be

My stars
and your moon,
happy to rise together at dusk
