My first year here
in a small town in New Hampshire
on the border of 
a small town in Vermont
was strange
First of all,
covid was
raging
around the world.
We were in person all year
we were lucky

Are you okay?
I couldn't believe it was my voice saying it. My voice, pulling the strings of the universe--or so it felt, back then.

This summer, I will
make the most of
the sun shining on me,
the blinding green 
of the woods
outside my window,
and the cool water
of the lake
near my house.

Blue
the color of your eyes
when you looked at me
that day so long ago

Blue
the color of the waves
that lapped against the sand,
then retreated
slowly
back to their home
the waves
i was once afraid of

As the moon and stars swirled around me overhead, I was suddenly overcome by a sense of freedom.
