Beautiful minds.

Hearts burst.

Filled up,

Slowly bled dry

Bled “safe”

Become functioning once more,

Again.

Five years ago,

we collapsed onto the couch,

seized the last of the Sour Patch Kids,

savored the sourness prickling in our mouths,

and laughed together for hours.

Now,

you wear so much makeup that

Picking up your books when they’ve fallen

Helping kids with their homework

Volunteering wherever they can

I should have known it was fake

They lift off the mask 

And there is no person behind it
