A Race
Crack!
The start
is always the worst
the gun goes off
and everyone
is in one big herd
stampeding
toward the woods
and you have no choice
but to run
When you reach
the shade of the woods -
Perspective
I look around me
and I see
people
who look like they know
exactly what they're doing
and I feel
embarrassed
ashamed that I'm not
as confident
as prepared
as good
as everybody else
I look at you -
Rainbow Dreams
I know
I know
a rainbow
is water droplets
refracting sunbeams
and the rainbow
has no end
but hey
let me dream
it won't hurt
to disregard science
for a little while
and find
where water and sun -
Drowning
It hits me
like a wave
knocking me over
pulling me under
dragging me down
down
down
into the deep
where I will drown
I sink
below the water
where it is cold
and evil things lurk
in the darkness -
Sheep
Why on earth
would counting sheep
ever help someone
fall asleep? -

Mugs of hot cocoa and warm fuzzy blankets
Puppy dog's tails and friendship bracelets
Dozens of paper cranes hung up on strings
