Damian always tried to fit into his group. When he was with his "best friend", his personality would change quickly. Some kids even tried to tell him this, and although he felt deep down that they were right, he brushed it off and hoped things would change.
A few days later, Damian was sitting with his friends when he found a note on his desk. It said,
"You're better than this, and you know it."
He tried to brush it off again but kept thinking about it - "What does this even mean? Why didn't they just say that face-to-face? Don't let it get under your skin." But it still did.
He told his bestie about it. "You overreact too much. It's not a big deal." And for a minute he thought -
"You're better than this and you know it. So why don't you do something about it?"

Oh-o, is this truly the end of this story, meant to be left as a brief flash fiction? I think his friends and classmates are being too harsh on his -- we all quite naturally change our attitude and quirks and personality to some degree in each new setting, depending on the emotions and character of our peers -- so I was skeptical of any "fakeness" he was being accused of and rooting for him instead!
