The summer gets yellower
As reality ripens and swells
Ears of corn shining like buried treasure
Silky hair swaying in the daylight
Flaxen leaves scattering the ground
Trees shedding as we don
The strange, reclusive scholae translationem
At first coming out in gentle waves
Then typhooning the streets
Parking lots and garages tinged yellow
Time to stir honey into tea
Amber dripping off spoons
To have its final rest
Between my balmy lips
And bumblebees curl on windowsills
Doorways
Stoops
Little pricks of yellow to catch the corner of my eyes
And the sun is golden bright
Turning white walls and wooden rocking chairs bright
Everything caught momentarily in a Benson painting
As reality ripens and swells
Ears of corn shining like buried treasure
Silky hair swaying in the daylight
Flaxen leaves scattering the ground
Trees shedding as we don
The strange, reclusive scholae translationem
At first coming out in gentle waves
Then typhooning the streets
Parking lots and garages tinged yellow
Time to stir honey into tea
Amber dripping off spoons
To have its final rest
Between my balmy lips
And bumblebees curl on windowsills

Little pricks of yellow to catch the corner of my eyes
And the sun is golden bright
Turning white walls and wooden rocking chairs bright
