when you take a close look

i love to talk about the scar on my forehead
it’s a small crescent indent right in between my eyes
and if you ask what it’s from
i’d love to tell you that
i got it when my brother flung my head against a table corner 
and if you say “what a terrible brother”
then i may even tell you
how for years my brother had a scar as well
a dark line on his cheek
what i would call my revenge
but no one ever asks about the scar on my forehead
because to them
it’s just a scar
and to me it’s a story
