I smiled at the void
and the void smiled back.
I dipped my finger into it
and got lost in the darkness,
like an ocean, ever reaching.
Water filled my lungs instead of air.
And when I surfaced once more,
I coughed my heart up on the sand.
The void offered me a cup of tea for my throat
and I took it gratefully.
It asked me why I still remained
and I found I had no answer.
When it came time to leave,
the void smiled at me
and I smiled back.
