Trickle down honey

Trickle down honey
Drip over my collarbones and slide with my shoulder blades and caress my caving chest
Set the silks
Swathe my hips in satin and stitch with samite suns
Soften my hands with sugar and milk
Massage in spices found at the bottom of sunken ships
Layer my calves with gold leaf and scrub with spun sugar as you whisper treacle down my ears
Wave palm leaves like Ra rising, raising ray rains
Pathe my past with papyrus and lather my futures with luxury
Play pretend that I am gold and brass and I must shine like mirrors
Build me cities to topple and storybooks to fill and mausoleums to haunt once I am dead and gone
Coat my lips in balm and sculpt my arms in wax and recite my words with the sting of bees
Trickle down honey

It was just a fluke that I happened to see

The ghost of a girl in 1893

I didn't think much of her, tried to ignore

But then she came 'round in 1894

A spirit was not something that I had wanted

  • Papercuts

Did you know that, when you wrote me, I was made of papercuts

That I was ink and glue and wax but mostly, I was papercuts

Did you know that, when you read me, I am made of memories
