The Tree Next to the Path

The path led him to a tree,

His eyes opened wide,

For the tree's roots reached the underworld,

And the branches opened up the skies.

He was amazed, but departed moments later,

For the path would lead him to riches too,

And nothing could disrupt his connection with the path,

Not even the tree.

He peered upon the tree for decades,

It was everywhere along the path,

He could never run away.

It had been an eternity since he first saw the tree,

The roots still reached the underworld,

And the branches still opened up the skies,

But he was buried next to the bottom of the tree,

Fertilizing its roots.
