Like a tree

Like a tree
nothing will
s h a k e
    me.

Like a tree
the wind blows through my hair.

Shading me
     into
silhouette

Like a tree
I bend
and move.

Reaching
to kiss
the sun.

Like a tree
I take the tears
and
make them
BEAUTIFUL

Like a tree
the sky is my limit
and nothing but dirt can
ever
hold
me
back.

    lit up by fluorescent lights

    She saunters toward the building

The screen stares back at me:

    9:30 pm,

    an unfinished assignment,

    a deadline due.

My weary chest heaves a heavy breath.
