Today the first snow has fallen - 
It covers up fall's leaves - 
I know it is a little late - 
Yet now the furnace - slaves - 
 

Climbing cold - damp steam has risen - 
It outran fall's crisp grasp - 
Now it comes when one takes a breath - 
Wind blows the aftermath - 

Cold snow blows across white fields -
No longer do sheep graze -
A lonely hare jumps quietly - 
Snow tries to block its way -
