Things We Left In Ruin

Friendships come and go,
I've learned that over the years
I've lived on this planet.
To me, this is an undeniable fact.
But there's always that one friendship
I thought would last longer than the rest.
One small argument, though, is all it takes
For everything we've built to go down
in raging, wild flames we can't seem to stop.
Through the fire, I see everything we had
crumble down to ash that will fly away in the wind.
Soon we will not speak a word to each other,
as if we are now water and oil: never mixing together.
We leave our friendship in ruin, not bothering to fix it.
What is the use of trying to fix something far too broken for repair?
No matter how badly we may want what we once had,
we will never get it again; what was once normal to us
will never be our 'normal' again,
as our old, broken friendship flies away with the wind,
leaving only a few pieces of it in ruin.
