Star Girl

Small girl
with ocean eyes
and sunshine hair
curling like tendrils
around her round face
Her smile is full of gaps
where teeth have fallen out
and her giggle 
is like raindrops
She's mischievous
and playful 
like a flowing stream
and her head 
is full of wild tales
She talks about the stars
and how she wants to fly
up to the moon 
and into the stars
And though she can't yet read
her words are sharp and quick 
telling exactly what
is on her mind
She is independent
and she knows her stuff
but she is still a child
and needs a hand sometimes
I look forward to watching her grow up
into a strong determined woman
and I hope she makes it
to the moon and the stars
