Respect To Those Who You Give It To

Respect to you may be showing good manners at the dinner table
Or keeping eye contact with someone to signal they have your full attention
Even saying “please” or “thank you”
But everyones’ definition of respect is solely determined by their personal experience

To me, respect goes deeper than using proper decorum
Respect isn’t something to be handed easily either
Rather it’s more than just the roots of admiration for someone
For me, to respect someone is to honor them

I may not show her much through my actions
But I revere her very deeply
I see gray hairs starting to take root in her locks
Wrinkles are now imbedded deeply on her face
They are possibly the most beautiful of battle scars to me

It’s said that you should respect your mother
For it is she who gave you life into a world full of opportunities
But that doesn’t take away from the fact that you can’t force someone to have respect for another

You always say your wrinkles and gray hairs make you look silly
But I say they make you look strong
I truly do look up to you when things get rough around the patches
And every achievement I accomplish is also your achievement
You inspire parts of me that I didn’t even knew were reachable
And for that you have earned my respect a long time ago
For I will always honor you
Appreciate you
Cherish you
All of it just for you
