Piano Pictures

I don’t know how you have the stamina to weave notes like an infinity tapestry
There is a crack in the treble clef tattooed on my heart.
I try to re-ink it with fresh melodies
But when I listen to your rich vibratos and complex patterns
I only wish I had that inertia when I sit down to practice.
You carve pictures through the atmosphere’s soundscape
Painting with decibles
And the callouses on your fingers
I can only pick out a handful of notes I like together
The ones that give my de ja vú of a Disney song.
Your music makes me crave a loom to weave my own soundscapes on
Though I don’t know how to make my own patterns
So I steal borrowed songs from long-gone weavers
Until I know how to set my words to music.
I have notebooks full of lyrics
And fingers full of possibilities
And you have eyes that can see into the endlessness
Of the way noise can become something
Beautiful.
My ears are beaches
So send me sound waves
Until the sand grows cold.
