Petals

I see you

I see you in the way the waves break onto the shore
and their tears fall into the undertoe, hidden
I see you in the broken ring from a gas station
that you left in my living room that looks like a moon
I see you in the holes and patches of my oldest pair
of pointe shoes from the strongest of scars

You see me as the grooves on the petals
of your flower that hold the petals to the center, which still
doesn't make sense to me and you never can quite articulate it
but we always end up laughing about it, somehow
That's okay

I see you in the brightest beams of foggy light
in my backwoods that shine through the dark pain

You see me as the grooves on the petals
of your flower that hold the petals to the center, which still
doesn't make sense to me but I hope and I think
and I know that I will understand
someday.

  • fragile foundation

    every twist of inadequacy's blade

(each one worse than the previous)

fell in a rhythmic order, one that your silence

carried in. did you hate me?

you'd never say so. so blindly, i never changed.

    sunday nights are my own.

old music in the corners of my mind

pen scratches on paper, ten thousand poems

    two hundred and seventy-two

    little golden lights, 4 walls

    that mirror my soul.
