To Our Founding Fathers

You don't know my name,
don't know who I am, but
I want to say that
I'm sorry.
What am I sorry for?
I'm sorry that you spent
hours and hours and
irreplaceable time
creating a government
that we are watching
as it begins to burn.
I'm sorry that
the world is this way.
I'm sorry that
up there, in heaven
(or wherever we go when we
die), you have to
watch this horror unfold
with staring eyes that want to look away,
but can't.
I'm sorry.
