"Do you remember her, Ravilo? Your mother?"
Murky dreams. Why had Julio asked me that..? Why did he need to know?
Everything was dark. There was nothing to see.
"What did she look like?"
Words, unbidden, sprand to the surface.
"..blue.."
"Blue? She looked blue?"
"..no..her eyes.."
"Her eyes?"
"..they were the most beautiful shade of blue.."
I woke with a start. Sitting straight up, I put my hands to my eyes to my face. I didn't feel alive.
"Ravi? What's wrong?"
Julio's reflective eyes from the other side of the room, peering at me intently.
"N-nothing, Julio. I'm sorry to have woken you." I had to look away. My heart was beating fast and everything seemed out of focus.
"A nightmare? You were thrashing in your sleep.." His bed creaked as he stepped onto the floor. "We've been going through some things recently, it would be natural if you started to have nightmares. Do you want to talk about it?"
I was frozen, I couldn't move. His voice was so close, but it didn't sound like his voice anymore. It was distorted, feminine, too closeby.
"Ravi?"
I could look - I fell back in terror. It wasn't Julio's face, it couldn't be! I'd never seen that face in my life!
"Hey! Ravilo! What's wrong!"
Shaking, I was shaking. Julio was shaking me. His face returned to normal, his eyes yellow with worry. "Ravi! Snap out of it!"
"Aah..aah.." Shuddering, I fell into him. I couldn't stop the tears. "I don't know who it was..but they were calling out to me.."
"That's alright, Ravilo," he said softly, hugging me gently. His voice was quiet. "It happens."
"They..they wanted to know about my mother.."
"Your mother? Why?" He pulled back some, his weight more on the bed rather than me.
"I don't know..I don't remember anything about her.."
"That's alright, Ravi. Just calm down." I felt Julio move his hands onto my back and he whispered something. Everything became oh-so soft and I couldn't focus on anything. "Sleep."
