Misuse of Music

Simple sweetness is this melody,

a single tear of destiny that betrays its maker,

Slipping down off a nose

And onto red, red clothes

that were white once.

A soft drifting song

on a battlefield with the battle

long, long gone.

They sing for no applause,

no cause for this encore,

Only that it allows them to be more,

More than a murderer

A killer

and a thief

whose nimble fingers

were bent over pockets

instead of piano keys,

Stealing lockets

Instead of middle Cs.

Simple sweetness is this melody,

Au revoir, goodbye it seems to say,

to those fates of destiny.

Tomorrow will bring this field to life,

And tomorrow will bring

the end for their strife.

Maybe there’s music in the afterlife.
