Masquerade

I'm doing fine, until I see the look in your eyes.

They're cold, and dark, and filled with despise.

But I can see the façade you're playing.

I can see it in your fingers,

The way they constantly drum an unsteady beat.

As if to mimic that your heart is incomplete.

I can see it in your lips,

The way they part then close

just as quickly when you see me.

The way they no longer say my name.

You have to keep up this mask,

I understand

that beneath that face of stone,

There is a heart of gold, there is a man.

Sometimes the subtle hints are enough for me to know,

Sometimes they make me want to explode.

But I can't, the masquerade would have to go.

Maybe I made a grave mistake,

And this is you, never having changed.

And I was just a part of your silly little game.

But please have that unnerving look in your eyes,

Lead me back to you.

Even through the battle,

When we aren't meant to be in a truce.

Please don't have all this time to be wasted away,

Like the gray sky on a rainy day.

I don't know how much longer

we can keep up this masquerade.

  • i'll stay forever

Every day, I sit and stare

at you talking about what others consider nonsense.

    I'd call you a wordsmith,

Staged-like words flowing off the tip of your tongue.

I hunch in the corner of the group,

  • time and time again

my heart was ripped apart in seconds

and it only took a few hours to be stitched up again.

    those stitches won't stay

just like I know you won't.

you leave the conversations like deer,
