TO LISTEN AND TO UNDERSTAND

I listen
But only because we, as a people, are meant to
I understand
Because I know that I help the world when I do
I remember
My first step to greet the world, as destiny held my hand
Encouraging me to listen
And to understand.

I listen
But only because that is granted to me as a human
I understand
But not all people can help the world as I can
And my heart goes out to all the people
Who cannot help the world
Because they listen
But they don’t understand.
