Library

When I think about a library, I don't usually think about the ideal ones. I think about a huge building with double doors and a staircase to get in, with a ceiling that is 30-40 feet tall. The walls are laced with shelves that hold thousands of books. Some little, some big. Some thick and thin. Each book has its own story. Whether it's about the Civil War or flying monkeys, each book is unique.

I imagine tall wooden ladders on wheels that skyrocket up to the ceiling. I imagine the floor is carpeted and the smell of new books fills your nose almost immediately. I imagine the only noises would be the front desk attendant stamping books, the ladders making little squeaks as they move, along with people flipping through page after page. I imagine dozens of brown wooden tables with wood and cushioned chairs scattered around the place. People sitting in comfortable positions, some with one or two books and some with dozens next to them. Some people are studying, looking at a book then scribbling something in their notebooks.

The library in my mind usually only shows up in fairy tales, though. If only fairy tales could come true…
