I Miss a Place That Doesn't Exist

For a long time

I'd have vivid dreams,

bursts of REM that gave me the illusive bliss

of being wherever

and the closest return

to the mind of a child

so I'd store these treasures

like real-life memories

in messy notes,

just for a glimpse

of

trains over oceans,

hooded figures on side roads,

a man who painted the sky,

riding horses to race dusk,

a stone city in heaven,

hand-in-hand with my mother

and

if you asked me, I would have told you

I’d live in my dreams

if I could.
