i found you

i found you
hidden in the dark,
your face blazing in the yellow glow of my flashlight.
your eyes staring,
blue-streaked green,
soft and hopeful.
i reached out my hand, and--
and the stars in the heavens whirled, leapt, rearranged
as our souls intertwined
like string.
i held you,
and as i did,
i felt i was holding your heart
in my rough, calloused hand,
keeping it safe
until
you wanted it once again.
i led you out of your cold, dark place
and into the light,
created by millions of stars, planets, meteors
forming a galaxy,
purple-blue-pink-black
in the sky above us,
the space between our connected hands
bursting with color,
with
hope.

i found you,
and you found me too.

  • Stained-glass girl

you should be an image in stained-glass windows

the same ones you trace with your eyes every sunday

while hymns echo in your ears, words

you've known so long you forget the meaning.

or you belong in a portrait

  • Lavender and Gardenias

Her room smelled of lavender and gardenias

As we lay under silky rays of sun

And danced around the truth in long, snaking sentences,

Words falling over one another until they

    Became nothing, only syllables

  • nevermind, then.

and the pale pink is fading from the morning sky

the same way the words from the song i sang about you

    under my misty-cold breath

died on my lips. i wonder if i would've waited forever,
