i am happy, i am free

the cold, wet drops slip down my face like day-old tears.
they drench my body and clothes with the feeling of freedom.
i am happy.
i am free.
this moment is perfect.
i splash my feet around in the puddles surrounding my ankles.
my mouth opens,
allowing the gentle drops to touch my tongue.
i start to laugh.
i am happy.
in this moment,
i have not a care in the world.
i am free.
my dripping hair is plastered to my face as i twirl around,
swinging my arms.
as i glance up,
i am greeted by the moon.
a beautiful, luminescent light surrounded by an ethereal glow.
my eyes light up as a smile grows on my face.
i am happy.
and i am free.

  • But then

i haven't written in five months,

and i regret it every day

    my room is a mess,

but i don't know where to start

    the homework is piling up,

    and my perseverance is dwindling

    i need to practice more,

  • anticipation

i remember my first day of middle school

i was wearing washed-out jeans and a t-shirt from Target

my short brown hair was parted to the side

  • To my sister

my sister is the most beautiful person i have ever laid eyes on

    inside and out,

    she is impeccable.

she is the most generous, selfless, kind woman i have ever met

whether she's 10 minutes or 10 hours away,
