HANDS OFF

I’m standing there, minding my own,
Unarmed, no threat, just skin and bone.
But he sees me, and I’m already guilty,
Not for what I’ve done, but for how I look, for where I’ve been, for the color of my skin.

I didn’t provoke, didn’t cause any harm,
Just a kid reaching for a snack, no alarm.
But he sees a threat, an enemy to fight,
And he take his power, with no wrong in sight.

HANDS OFF.

I want to scream, I want to shout,
Tell him I’m innocent, tell him to stop this doubt.
But he doesn't hear me, he doesn't see,
The injustice of it all, the pain inside me.

I’m unarmed, but it’s not about that,
It’s about control, it’s about keeping me flat.
He’ll walk away, his power intact,
While I’m left in pieces, with no justice, no act.

HANDS OFF.

I didn’t deserve this, no reason at all,
But they’ll never know, they’ll never recall.
That in his hands, he held more than a badge,
He held a weapon to silence truth and I paid the price for the lie he had.

HANDS OFF.
