Flames Everlasting

Moonlight wisely peered at our circle
Glancing through the shadowed trees.
Tangles of bristles
Wove their way into this
Mangled clump of gray
Whom we offered the gift of our greatest breath.
Sweet rushes of crisp air adorned in this
Acquired taste of suffering and healing
Swooshed from the icy North
Fluttered from the flourishing East
Washed in from the sun-baked South
Sprinkled down from the fiery West.
With each building breath
Soft quakes of pale
Smoke rattled from the
Crumbling extremities of this
Cradle of hemlock.
Exhalations of our buried bile
Our joys
Our loathings
Our triumphs
Our grievances
Dissipated into the ether
Their departure provoked by the
Smoke, sparks, soaring flames
As the moonlight trailed through the forest
Shyly joining our stomping dance.
Our fiercly tranquil
Clumsily, yet beautifully woven
Patchwork of
Harmonies and melodies
Fell into one whole.
One suffering and healing union
Binded by our brave song
Our dancing steps
Our tenderly clasped hands
Our inside jokes
Our tears
Our experiences
Our hatred
Our love.
We sang the night away around this one
Growing rise of flames.
Fire bound to fade.
Fade as dawn awoke and we
Rattled away in run-down cars yet
Hypothetically
Mentally
Spiritually
Emotionally
Truthfully
Never fade.
Everlastingly flickering in our own hearts.
The circle of stones empty as we spread across the nation yet
The flames brew invisibly
Nearly ready to rise
As we shall return
Soon enough.

i just kept it all to myself. every night, my own religion

pages of pen poised on paper, pouring my heart out

i don't want to love someone

you told me, one night in mid-july.

warm air and sun fading in the sky,

i want to fall in love with someone

i've heard this story a thousand times before.

i've seen it unfold. it started with a glance, became a smile,

became a longing. when i realized it was my turn,

i was too late. no one told me how hard it would be
