An explosion like an owl flapping its wings echos around my heart,
taking my breath like an early morning sunrise.
A candle flame flickers in time with my breaths,
Gold flecking my tongue.
Sweet lies like honey fill my ears like music.
An artist could paint me in pinks and reds,
And still forget the magenta fire glowing purple from my lungs.
We trade half-truths like silver,
And I armor myself with shining fakes.
You say you like it when I smile,
So I pull a face.
My lips are a bloody red,
Eyes glistening with tears I'll never shed.
I think I hate you.
taking my breath like an early morning sunrise.
