The Edge of the Pool

I’m standing on the edge of the pool,

My parents told me to step away,

But I didn’t listen,

I slipped… I almost fell in,

My parents caught me,

They grounded me for not listening to them,

I never stood that close to the pool in front of them again,

I didn’t want to be grounded.

I’m standing on the edge of the pool,

My grandparents told me to move away,

But I didn’t listen,

I slipped… I almost hit the water,

My grandparents caught me,

They reprimanded me for not listening to them,

I never stood that close to the pool in front of them again,

I didn’t want to be reprimanded.

I’m standing on the edge of the pool,

My brother told me to go away from there,

But I didn’t listen,

I slipped… I dunked in the water

I couldn’t breathe for a second.

My brother grabbed me,

He scolded me for not listening to him,

I never told that close to the pool in front of him again,

I didn’t want to be scolded.

I’m standing on the edge of the pool,

My friends told me to scooch away,

But I didn’t listen,

I slipped… I fell in,

I couldn’t breathe for a minute.

My friends pulled me out,

They ridiculed me for not listening to them,

I never stood that close to the pool in front of them again,

I didn’t want to be ridiculed.

I’m standing on the edge of the pool,

Nobody told me to step away,

So I slipped… I fell in,

I couldn’t breath

Nobody caught me,

Because nobody was there,

I couldn't swim…so I sank.. and sank,

All the way to the bottom.

I should’ve listened.
