Another heart shatters
Each time the wind blows
Another break up
But each time a pumpkin is carved
A date is planned
Each time a cider donut is devoured
Another kiss
Another night

This is not ok
You think
Just because
When you were born
And the nurse held you up
Saying,
"It's a boy"
I have never wanted
Something more than I do now
The problem is
I don't know what
I don't know what
I long for
What I reach for
It's like a dream
Blurry and unrecognizable
I want this thing
In the car
After dark
With the headlights shining
On the wet pavement
Like stars on the ground
I curl up in my seat
And the news is on
Voices fill the car
Not my own
Not my dads

Aw! It's true, autumn winds can be foreboding but the season's festivities sure do bring people together.
