The Dog at Knight

I squiggle in bed like a fish

In my tight time capsule I wish

For sleep to sing me

A melody dreamy

When suddenly

Swish! Swish! Swish!

My neighbor next door

Has an odd labrador

Who does sword-fighting late in the night.

I’ve complained many times

But he simply just chimes

“You’ll regret when he comes for a fight!”

I’ll use sleepify cream

But my stomach will scream

At just one lively swing of his blade.

So this time, at witch hour

I get up, take a shower

To confront that old mutt in black suede.

But when I ring the bell

That odd dog starts to yell

“A new victim! It’s just what I prayed!”

Truth jumps up with jaunty coaxes

I reach a brick motel, its walls strung with webs gleaming under the full moon. The cacophonous crows and zooming cars have washed away the motel’s soul, leaving it numb and still amidst the rush.
