I fall
Down
Down
Down
Land on grass
Dewdrops clings to every blade
Land on leaves
Dew makes the color pop
Yellow
Red orange
I close my eyes
Trying to escape the rush
Of anxiety
It’s catching up to me
Just like the years
Already fall
Junior year
I breath in the smell
Of dried leaves
Dying plants
Earth
And the smell I can’t quite place
But it’s here every fall
I lay my palms down on the ground
Listen to my heart beat pound pound pound
Focus on the way the tree
Shifts the light under my eyelids
Feel the texture of the grass
Damp
Try to remember
That fall
Is a time of change
Even though I can’t help being scared
Of my future
How next time
The air smells like this
I will be 18
No longer a child
Yet still not an adult
Every fall I change
And yet stay the same
How I watch the sky turn orange
How I collect leaves
And make a crown
Every fall smell the air
Breathe in deep
And remember
Change can be good
